Maintaining 3 MW Cooling During a Full System Upgrade
The Challenge
A major data centre was undertaking a full upgrade of its existing cooling infrastructure. The existing system needed to be completely removed before the installation of a new, high-efficiency solution could begin. During this period, the facility still needed to maintain full operational capacity and meet its strict environmental conditions.
Maintaining the required cooling load was critical to ensure uptime for the client’s IT systems. The project demanded a reliable temporary cooling package that could deliver a total of 3 MW of cooling, while fitting within the site’s space and operational constraints. The key challenge was to achieve this with zero downtime and no risk to service during the transition.
The Solution
Celsius Hire provided a fully engineered temporary cooling solution to maintain stable temperatures throughout the upgrade process. Following a detailed site survey, our engineering team designed a bespoke package that could deliver the full 3 MW cooling capacity while the new system was being installed.
The temporary solution included:

Full ancillary equipment including pumps, pipework, and controls
This package was installed and commissioned by Celsius Hire’s in-house team, ensuring seamless integration with the site’s existing infrastructure. Once the permanent cooling equipment is in place and ready, the hire package will be carefully decommissioned to allow a smooth transition without any interruption to the data centre’s operation.

The temporary cooling system ensured the data centre remained fully operational throughout the upgrade. All critical equipment was protected, with no unplanned downtime!
