Event Cooling Hire – Fast Cooling Solution Delivered in Under 48 Hours
The Challenge
A major London events operator needed an urgent event cooling hire solution for their venue in Greenwich. The space regularly hosts concerts, raves and large networking events, with crowd numbers reaching into the thousands.
When their existing cooling system developed persistent faults, temperatures began climbing during busy event days (even thought it was winter!).
Without effective cooling, client comfort, safety, and event continuity were all at risk. The operator faced a simple but critical issue:
“If they lost cooling, they would lose events.”
They required a fast, correctly sized solution that could sit externally to the venue, comply with site restrictions and deliver reliable cooling across the event space.
The Solution
Celsius Hire mobilised immediately, providing a complete event cooling hire package designed specifically for the venue’s layout and occupancy levels.
We supplied:
- 2 x 70kW Chillers
- 2 x 150kW Air Handling Units
- Full ducting system to supply cooled air into the venue
- All hosework and ancillary equipment required for a turnkey setup
Each 70kW chiller was linked to a 150kW AHU using 2‑inch hosework, creating two identical cooling packages. These were positioned externally at opposite corners of the stage‑side of the venue, satisfying the customer’s requirement to keep plant outside the building.
A HIAB was used to lift equipment into two specific locations on site. From there, ductwork was routed into a first‑floor plant room and then through the wall into the main event area. This allowed the system to deliver cooled air efficiently without obstructing staff, performers, or production teams.
Meeting the Event Cooling Requirements
Before installation, we reviewed the space, crowd flow, and operational zones to ensure the setup was both effective and unobtrusive. Key considerations included:
- Correctly sizing cooling to stabilise temperatures during high‑density events
- Positioning equipment away from busy walkways and event build‑up areas
- Managing lifting and movements safely via HIAB
- Designing duct runs that fit the building layout without disruption
- Delivering the entire package within 48 hours of order
Despite a few on‑site challenges, our team and the venue staff worked closely to keep everything smooth, safe, and on schedule. Whilst taking in the views from the O2!
The Result
The system was installed ahead of the first event, delivering the cooling required to maintain comfortable conditions throughout high‑capacity periods.
By acting quickly and engineering a solution that worked with the building’s constraints, Celsius Hire ensured the venue could continue operating at full capacity. No cancelled events, no overheating risks, and no disruption to the programme.
