Seamless Process Heating for Increased Seasonal Demand

The Challenge

A poultry processing plant required a temporary process heating solution to support a planned increase in production capacity in the lead-up to the Christmas period. Reliable heating was critical for the scalding process, where consistent water temperatures are essential to ensure effective feather removal and maintain product quality.

The site was located in a remote rural area with limited access for large vehicles, creating logistical challenges for delivery and installation. In addition, the solution needed to be installed within a tight timeframe while avoiding disruption to live processing operations that were already underway.

The Solution

Celsius Hire engineered a fully integrated temporary boiler plant package, designed to provide reliable and consistent process heating while accommodating site access constraints and operational requirements.

At the heart of the solution was a 1.2MW temporary boiler package, capable of delivering the thermal output required to maintain stable scalding temperatures during peak production periods. Heat was transferred efficiently to the process via a 1.2MW plate heat exchanger, providing a safe and effective single-pass heating solution without introducing boiler water directly into the process system.

To ensure resilience and uninterrupted operation, the package included two 3000L fuel tanks to support extended run times, alongside a 30kVA generator with a 1000L fuel tank to provide independent power for controls and ancillary equipment. A dedicated pump set ensured reliable water movement and consistent heat delivery to the scalding process.

The system was connected using 40 metres of 4″ PN16 flanged hose and 70 metres of 2″ stainless steel flanged hose, with the temporary hose routes carefully planned to avoid production areas and maintain safe access across the site. Delivery and installation were completed using three HIAB lorries, coordinated to manage restricted access and tight installation windows.

The Result

Through detailed planning, close coordination, and efficient execution, the temporary boiler package was delivered, installed, and commissioned on schedule. The system provided reliable, consistent process heating, enabling the poultry processing plant to scale up production smoothly and meet increased seasonal demand.

The temporary solution operated seamlessly alongside existing operations, maintaining process continuity and supporting product quality throughout the peak festive period; a result achieved without disruption, despite the challenging site conditions.

Braeden, Sales Engineer, Celsius Hire:
“We knew exactly what the plant needed and were able to deliver a reliable, fully integrated temporary boiler solution on time. The team’s careful planning and the right kit meant the system went in smoothly, keeping operations running and helping the plant hit their seasonal production targets seamlessly.

Applications Spotlight: Process Heating

Process heating is a critical component across industries where precise temperature control directly impacts product quality, operational efficiency and production throughput. From food and beverage manufacturing to chemical processing and pharmaceuticals, reliable heat ensures processes run smoothly, safely and on schedule.

In the food sector, for example, process heating is essential for tasks such as scalding, pasteurisation, cooking or sterilisation. Consistent and controlled heating helps maintain product integrity, meet hygiene standards and achieve the desired output volume; particularly during peak seasonal periods when demand can fluctuate rapidly.

Temporary process heating solutions, like oil fired boilers and plate heat exchangers, offer the flexibility to scale production quickly, support maintenance shutdowns or provide backup during equipment failure. By combining temporary boilers with pumps, hoses and auxiliary systems, operators can maintain continuous operations without disrupting ongoing processes.

Celsius Hire’s approach focuses on delivering fully integrated temporary heating solutions that are fast to deploy, adaptable to site conditions and designed to meet the exact thermal requirements of each process. Whether it’s a rural plant with restricted access or a large-scale industrial facility, the right process heating system keeps operations efficient, productive and reliable.
