Emergency Boiler Hire for a Large Care Home in Oxfordshire

The Challenge

A care home near Henley-on-Thames relied on an aging boiler that finally broke down. In a care setting, losing heating and hot water hits vulnerable residents first; so the site needed a working solution fast.

The building added its own constraints. It’s a large period property with limited space around the plant room, and the temporary kit had to sit outside, connect neatly into the existing system and run safely on its own fuel supply.

Care Home Boiler Hire

The Solution

We supplied a 300kW containerised boiler fitted with a 300kW oil burner, paired with a 2,000L bunded fuel tank so the unit could run independently of the site’s own fuel supply.

Both units arrived by HIAB and were positioned on the gravel area beside the building, keeping the footprint tight and access clear. Our engineers connected the boiler to the existing heating system using 2″ stainless steel PN16 flanged hoses in 10m and 5m runs, with a butterfly valve and flanged elbow to route the flow and return neatly into the plant room. A 25m 16A extension lead powered the boiler from the building supply.

Once connected, our team commissioned the system on site, checking flow, burner performance and safe operation before handing over.

  • 300kW boiler
  • 300kW oil burner
  • 2,000L TransCube bunded fuel tank
  • 2″ stainless steel PN16 flanged hoses (10m and 5m)
  • 2″ PN16 flanged butterfly valve and elbow, with gaskets and fixings
  • 25m 16A single phase extension lead
  • HIAB delivery and collection, installation, commissioning and de-install

The Result

We got heating and hot water back on fast, keeping residents comfortable and letting staff carry on with care as normal. The temporary boiler stays on hire for a few weeks while the permanent replacement goes in, so the home keeps full heating throughout the works. When the new plant is in, we’ll de-install the temporary system and collect it by HIAB, leaving the site as we found it.

“With a care home, every hour without heating matters. The team did a great job. The install was seamless and we kept downtime to a minimum for residents and staff.” – Andrew Moss

Sector Spotlight: Boiler Hire for Care Homes

Care homes run around the clock and many residents are frail or elderly, so a heating failure can’t wait for a convenient moment. Temporary boilers keep heating and hot water going while the permanent plant is repaired or replaced.

We typically support care homes with:

  • Emergency breakdown cover to restore heating and hot water quickly when a boiler fails
  • Planned replacements, keeping the home running while old plant is stripped out and new plant goes in
  • Self-contained oil-fired units with bunded fuel tanks, so sites don’t depend on their own fuel supply
  • Careful positioning on tight or older sites, keeping access routes clear for staff, visitors and emergency services
  • Full installation and commissioning by our engineers, so on-site teams can focus on residents

If your boiler is aging, it’s worth having a contingency plan in place before winter. We can survey your site in advance so the right kit and connections are ready if you need them.
