Emergency Chiller Hire for College Cooling System Failure
The Challenge
A large college experienced a failure of its existing chiller systems; leaving the site without sufficient cooling during the May heatwave and following summer months.
With students and staff continuing to occupy the buildings, maintaining comfortable internal temperatures was essential. The client also needed to ensure there was adequate cooling capacity while replacement chillers were sourced and installed.
A rapid-response temporary cooling solution was required to minimise disruption and maintain a suitable learning environment throughout the warmer period.
The Solution
Following a site survey, Celsius Hire identified the chiller requirements and designed a temporary solution capable of supporting the campus while permanent replacement equipment was installed.

- Over 100 metres hoses and fittings
Our temporary chillers provided essential cooling to the college’s building services systems, helping maintain comfortable indoor temperatures for students, staff and visitors throughout the summer period.
Due to the complexity of the installation, more than 100 metres of 4-inch hose had to be routed to rooftop plant equipment approximately 25 metres above ground level. The project was completed within a live educational environment, requiring careful planning and execution to ensure minimal disruption to day-to-day activities.
The equipment was delivered using two HIAB vehicles, with a four-person installation team working over three days to complete the installation, testing and commissioning process safely and efficiently.
The Result
The large temporary chiller package was installed, commissioned and operational; providing the college with reliable cooling while replacement chillers were installed.
Despite the logistical challenges involved in routing large-diameter hoses to rooftop plant areas, the project was delivered safely and seamlessly, on schedule and with minimal disruption to the campus.
The client and end user were extremely satisfied with the outcome, benefiting from uninterrupted cooling during a critical period.
