Temporary Process Heating and Cooling for Anaerobic Digestion Site
The Challenge
During a planned maintenance shutdown at an anaerobic digestion and biogas facility in the North , the client required temporary process heating and cooling equipment to maintain critical plant operations while the site’s permanent boiler and chiller systems were offline.
The facility relied on consistent process temperatures to continue production efficiently, making downtime a major operational risk. The client needed a rapid and reliable temporary solution that would integrate seamlessly with the existing infrastructure and minimise disruption to the plant.

The Solution
Celsius Hire supplied a complete temporary heating and cooling package to support the site throughout the planned shutdown period.

- 125kW chiller
- 2” camlock hoses
- 125A 3-phase power cable
Process Heating
- 600kW boiler
- 4” stainless steel flanged hoses
- 16A 3-phase power cable
- 1000L fuel tank
The installation required both temporary systems to connect directly into the site’s existing flow and return flanges. Approximately 20 metres of hose runs were installed from both the boiler and chiller into the operational systems.
To ensure safe and efficient delivery and positioning of the equipment on site, the project utilised two HIAB vehicles for transport and placement.
The temporary solution enabled the client to maintain stable process temperatures throughout the maintenance period, ensuring uninterrupted continuation of the anaerobic digestion process.
What the Temporary Systems Provided
The temporary boiler provided consistent process hot water to maintain the temperatures required within the anaerobic digestion process. Stable heat is critical on biogas sites, as it supports the biological activity needed for efficient gas production and overall plant performance.
The temporary chiller provided process cooling to regulate temperatures across operational equipment and systems on site. Maintaining controlled cooling helped prevent overheating during the maintenance shutdown and ensured the plant could continue operating safely and efficiently.
Together, the temporary heating and cooling solution allowed the facility to maintain stable operating conditions throughout the planned maintenance period, avoiding costly disruption to the production process.
