A slightly different blog this time, written by Max, our work experience student for the week!

He was really up for learning about different roles in the company. Although we couldn’t quite send him on site to install chillers, he was keen to learn about life as an engineer. Our brilliant engineer Curtis was really pleased to chat with Max and give him an insight into his role.

Max has shared his conversation with us on the blog below:

Some people find their way into an industry through luck or chance. Others, like Curtis, are inspired by the people around them who encourage them to achieve as much as they can.

How does Curtis approach his work

Curtis loves the challenge of solving problems and finding the right solution for each and every job he takes on. Through working on a wide range of installs, sectors and applications, Curtis has developed some valuable advice on how to make each project more seamless and consistently successful.

“I believe that if you really think about what you’re doing and remind yourself why you’re doing it, then you will complete it with success.”

Curtis has an F gas qualification, which supports his expertise in refrigerant systems. He also holds various additional qualifications, accreditations and certificates within the industry. Also, attending product and skill specific courses; Curtis believes continued learning… no matter how experienced you are, is a huge part of this evolving industry.

Advice Curtis has followed himself

Curtis has received strong advice throughout his career, which he is keen to pass on to other engineers:

“The best piece of advice I received regarding my work is that, with any challenge; big or small, listen and get your eyes on it. You must see, assess and take time to make your own judgement. No site, install or requirement is the same, so don’t treat it that way.”

Highlights and favourites with Curtis

Curtis’s told us that his career highlight would have to be the Cardiff ice rink installation. This for several reasons:

“It’s a big annual project and everyone working on it has a great sense of satisfaction once it’s complete. Also, the effort and hours we put into it make it incredibly rewarding to see people enjoying themselves on the ice afterwards. Seeing everything come together after all the planning, equipment and installation fills me with pride.”

In addition, Curtis’s favourite installations are ice rinks. He enjoys them so much that even his colleagues at work refer to him as “The Ice Rink Guy”. He truly is the go-to expert for a flawless chiller install.

Why Celsius Hire?

Curtis loves his role at Celsius, being assigned to an install or challenge and seeing it through to completion gives him great satisfaction. He also enjoys the events Celsius organises that enable staff to get together; team spirit is a huge part of Celsius Hire for Curtis. This ranges from charity work to staff BBQs in the summer.

“I just love the way they treat their staff with respect, and this really has a big impact as it brings the best out of their team. Celsius works hard to look after its staff, making sure that if you need anything; support, advice or help… it’s there for you. This is why I love working at Celsius. You’re part of something to be proud of.”
